If you're looking for a quick and easy way to create a website, this article
will teach you how to create a website in less than an hour.
Forget about everything you may have heard in the past, such as you need
to learn HTML or hire a web designer to get your website up and running --
that's just not the case.
The fact is, you can create a website in less than an hour using free services
available on the Internet, such as WordPress. Setting up a WordPress blog
is as easy as 1-2-3.
Step One: Selecting a Good Domain Name
Your first step will be to get a good domain name. You can register your
name through 'Name Cheap' very inexpensively.
However, before you do, take your time and really think about your domain
name, as there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration.
1. Your domain name should reflect your website and tell the world what your
website is all about.
2. Your domain name should contain your website's most relevant keyword phrase
for better search engine ranking.
3. Your domain name should be easily remembered.
4. Your domain name should only include letters to avoid causing any confusion.
5. Your domain name should not include abbreviations to avoid causing any
confusion.
A great domain name can be easily remembered or even guessed by potential
visitors and includes your most relevant keyword phrase.
Step Two: Selecting a Quality Web Host
Your next step will be to get a quality web host. Although there are several
free hosting services available on the Internet, if you're designing a website
for business purposes, you should NEVER host your website with a free host.
In order to establish credibility, you must be willing to invest in your
own domain name and professional web hosting.
Websites hosted on free servers are not taken seriously and will suffer a
serious loss of business.
Here are some basic features you should look for when selecting a web host:
• 24/7 reliable tech support
• Your own domain name
• Depending on the size of your site, a minimum of 50MB of server space with
the option to upgrade later if needed
• Unlimited true POP email accounts - name@yourdomain.com
• Unlimited email aliases
• Email forwarding
• Unlimited autoresponders
• Your own unrestricted CGI-Bin
• Access to SSL Encryption for secure transactions
• Access to a shopping cart
• MySQL Database
• Perl
• PHP
• Htaccess password protection
• Server Side Includes (SSI) support
• Design (and upload to) your site using HTML editing software
• Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions for those utilizing FrontPage
• Unlimited free access to your server via FTP
• Unlimited access to your website via an online control panel
• Easy access to your log files
• Statistics on visits to your website
• No hidden fees
There are many good web hosts on the Internet that are very reasonably priced.
Do some research and find a host that meets your needs.
Step Three: Create a Website
After you get your domain name and web host, your final step will be to create
your website. Visit the WordPress org site to download the software. It won't
cost you a dime and will provide you with a professional looking website
very quickly.
Next, install the software on your server. They provide great instructions,
so you shouldn't have any problems. However, if you would prefer, you can
always host your website with one of the WordPress host recommendations,
as they provide a one click installation option.
Once the software is installed, login to your admin by typing in your domain
name followed by /wp-admin. You can then select a 'Theme,' which is the layout
of your website, by clicking on the 'Appearance' link within the left menu.
And finally, click on 'Posts' - 'Add New' to make your first post.
Type your information within the text editor and format it to suit your needs.
Click on the 'Preview' button on the right to see how your post will look.
When you're ready to add it to your new website, click on 'Publish.'
That's all there is to it! WordPress makes it easy for anyone to create a
website in less than an hour. Use it to your advantage.
